About Discovering for Yourself Press
Discovering for Yourself Press was founded in 2009. The mission is to provide personal Bible study and prayer resources. The emphasis is always on reading the Bible yourself, understanding, remembering, believing, and applying what is read. While personal Bible study and prayer are emphasized, the results are enhanced when done with a group. Each of these studies were first used by the author (John Sullivan) with his home church, the Quad City Church of Christ.
The goal is not just to know the Bible better, although that would be a noble goal. Rather the main goals of each journal or notebook are:
- Get to know the Lord better. As you get to know Him better, your faith and love grow through that knowledge, and your daily walk with Him gets better and better.
- Increase our unity with one another. It is always hoped that individuals can do these studies within a group. As you share your discoveries and questions with other believers and seekers, the bond between you continues to grow.
- Develop your message to share with the world. As you develp your own convictions about God and His word, you can't help but share that with others that don't know Him.
You will often see the Knowing Your Bible/Knowing Your God logo in many of these studies, as shown under the psalm on the left. Click on the Free Bible Studies tab above and scroll down to the study entitled Knowing Your Bible/Knowing Your God. There you will find a detailed explanation of this goal and the Biblical emphasis behind it. Hopefully, it is faithfully represented in all of these resources.
One prayer that often inspires the writing and producing of these guides comes from Paul, in Ephesians 1:17 - 19:
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the glorious Father,
may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation,
so that you may know him better.
